ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Gestational hypertension is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality in Brazil. Nurses play a fundamental role in prenatal care by identifying early warning signs of gestational hypertension and preventing complications. Objective: To understand the role of nurses in the management of gestational hypertension during prenatal care. Methodology: A narrative literature review was conducted between February and May 2025. Searches were carried out in the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and National Library of Medicine (PubMed) databases, using health science descriptors such as " Pregnant Women," " Gestational Hypertension," " Prenatal Care," " Preeclampsia," and " Eclampsia." Results: Sixteen articles were included, highlighting the importance of nursing care in prenatal follow-up, the nurse’s role in managing acute gestational hypertension, and the main associated complications. Conclusion: Nurses are essential in preventing complications and reducing maternal and fetal mortality.
